Horse Feeding Guide  -  Getting The Most out of your Horse Feed

Feeding Rates
The horse has a small stomach and grain feeding should be controlled to minimize digestive problems. Depending upon the size of the horse, offer maximum of 1.5 to 2.5 kg of feed per feeding. The total Masterfeeds diet should be fed in a minimum of two meals daily. When high levels of feed are required, divide the total diet into equal amounts not to exceed 2.5 kg per feeding.

Make Diet Changes Slowly
When changing diets, replace existing diet over a 5 to 10 day period. When changing feed amounts, restrict the change to 0.5 to 0.75 kg and allow three days between changes.

The feeding ranges in the Masterfeeds Horse Feeding Guide are guidelines only. The correct feeding rate will be influenced by hay or pasture quality, body weight and desired weight changes of the horse and individual performance capabilities. The quantity of hay outlined can be replaced by pasture; as the quantity of grain intake increases, forage intake will decrease. Provide fresh, clean water at all times.
